While some planets in the galaxy have taken the lead when it comes to automation and use of robotic entities, Earth has fallen wildly behind the curve in these endeavors.
While robots named Rosie who were capable of cooking, cleaning and washing dishes were dreamt of in cartoons of the 1960s, all humanity has managed to develop so far are parts of robots that replace factory workers, vacuum cleaners that simply exist to annoy pets and tiny hockey pucks that listen in on human conversation and play the wrong song nine times out of 10.
However, law enforcement officers endeavored to change that when a retired police captain had the brilliant idea that if someone were to develop a crime fighting robot, it would free up police officers to eat doughnuts without the worry and bother of being shot at.
Side Note: Police departments lease them from a management company. The lease costs $60,000 to $70,000 per year. The average cost of a human police officer is between $30,000 and $60,000 per year. This is local government bureaucracy in a nutshell.
Anyway, on to our tale. The L.A. Police Department gave these police robots a whirl, but one of the primitive buckets of bolts got caught red-handed — or metal-handed — well, acting too much like a real cop.
According to Metro News, a fight of some kind broke out at a park that Lt. Metalface was patrolling. A concerned citizen walked up to Lt. Metalface, pushed the robot’s “help” button and was promptly told to “Step out of the way.” The robot then began humming what witnesses described as an “intergalactic tune” pausing only to ask visitors to keep the park clean.
An interview with the police chief revealed that this was simply a beta test of the robots, which had not been enabled to fight crime and did not have their assistance buttons activated.
WHAT IS EARTH NEWS?: Some of the strangest news in the galaxy can be found on the planet Earth. This is due largely in part to the fact that Earth men and women live their lives isolated from the rest of galactic society. Earth News highlights some of humanities strangest and most bizarre exploits.
